Surrealism Photo

It's Raining Cats and Dogs!

Surealism Idea

Surrealistic Photomontage

After day of many thoughts and ideas I have decided to go with the theme of “It’s Raining Cats and Dogs” for my photo montage.  This expression is always used when it’s really down pouring rain. So I decided, why not make it a photomontage! For this photograph I will have to take a picture of me or another person under an umbrella with a gloomy background. Than in Photoshop I will cut out pictures of my dog and find pictures of a cat either from the internet an actual cat. When I cut them out I will then place them accordingly in the background of my photo. The final steps will consist of me playing around with the color and contrast of the whole piece to get them to match.

Surrealistic Artist

Madalina Lordache-Levay- was born in Romania in 1982. She grew up painting and drawing, and then she betrayed images for words when she went to a university to study journalism. Over time she came to discover photography and digital art. She now lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She is a graphic designer (BrightPink Studio) and a gallery artist represented by James Schot Gallery.  Levay says that all her images start and end as photographs. Each image is composed of many photographs and also is sketched, researched and planed in detail before shooting. The results of her images are photorealistic qualities and the feel of a painting.

Artist’s Name: Madalina Lordache-Levay

Title: In My Other Life                       Date: 2006

Description:  The photo is well executed as well as the composition. The photo is a person crawled up in a ball and a tree is growing on top of it.

Analysis: The figure is right in the center of attention and not a lot of chaos going on around it. The emphasis is strictly of what’s in front of you so attention is drawn to it. The photo is vertical with everything balanced out.

Interpretation: This photo really has a lot of depth to it. It forces you to ponder what we would be in our other lives or if there is another one. It shows a dark life in the photo and ours now is full of light.

Judgment: This piece was well put together. The colors really affect you and your mood towards it. It makes you think seriously and even makes you feel a little dark inside. Looking at the man’s body language even gives you an impression that he’s not in a sane place. My eyes focus right on the center of the picture.

Pablo Picasso- was born on October 25, 1881 and died on April 8,1973. He is a Spanish painter, sculptor, etc. As one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century, he is known for co-founding the cubist movement, the invention of constructed sculpture, the co-invention of collage, and for the wide variety of styles that he helped develop and explore.  Picasso demonstrated extraordinary artistic talent in his early years, painting in a realistic manner through his childhood and adolescence.

Artist’s Name: Pablo Ruiz y Picasso

Title: Reading

Date: 1932

Description:  This painting is very abstract. The colors contrast. It is of a woman that looks like she is pieced together and she is at the library with a book on her lap.

Analysis: This Painting is presented vertically with all attention on it. The background is plain and simple. You are really focused on the figure he created and trying to imagine it as a whole and not separate pieces.

Interpretation: To me this painting is abstract but it is extremely modest and to the point. Just looking at the painting you see a whole bunch of shapes created to form a body or in this case a women. Her facial expression shows a very quiet and calm scene. She is in the library and it a quiet environment.

Judgment:  I really like how this painting is different and abstract. The composition was well executed.  You really feel what the subject feels in the photo.

Comparison:  These two photos differ completely because one is a photograph with the help of photoshop and one is a painting. They both have different vibes to them the photograph ones is deep and almost mystical and the painting is more upbeat and simple. You can tell both had much thought and time put in them. Although they are two totally different subjects.

Photo Series

The photo above was accomplished in Photoshop. I decided that everyone has different ears with different piercings, which makes everyone unique. I cropped and scaled each of these photos to fit a even designated square that I spilt the paper in. I flattened the image and it was done!

Artist Inspirations

Ellen Von Unwerth      Emma Watson 2009

This photo really grabbed my attention because its so "alive". Ellen really focused on fashion and female models. It shows how modern things are getting. I love how the photo is straight on and her expression is so fun and playful with makeup all over.

@Joe McNally                    New York City
Joe really caught the essence  of New York. The photo is caught in motion with all the lights and the fire trunk shows how loud and chaotic New York City really is.

JR                                          Women are Heros 2009

JR took a really powerful photo. The eyes really set a tone of intense sadness and sternness as if these are eyes are watching the little boy.

Salvador Domingo Felipe Jacinto Dalí i Domènech     The Persistence of Memory 1931

Dali really expressed time in this photo. I like the material he used. This piece of artwork isn't clear its a little blurry. All the colors pop and are equal in a way.

Vincent Van Gogh                           The Starry Night 1889
Vincent Van Gogh is one of my favorite artist. His pieces are so precise as like this one. Starry Night has so much going on up close with all his painting techniques but once you step back it's a masterpiece.

David Hockney Inspired Collage (Self-Portrait)

Justin Morgan       VD2014

I took several pictures of Justin. I opened them all up in photoshop. I pieced them together like a puzzle to resemble his face.

David Hockney Inspired Collage

My Backyard Tree      VD2014

This photo was produced by taking multiple photos and transforming to scale them. I pieced them all together to make the original photo but it isn't exactly perfect. The image is a little distorted but it gives the photo character.

I'd Rather Be with... Patrick Dempsey

               VD 2014-15

This is a picture of me and my boyfriend Patrick Dempsey. To achieve this photo I used the polygonal lasso tool and cropped my face out of a picture of me. I cut my face after it was cropped and I pasted it onto the page with Patrick Dempsey on it. I transformed and resized my face and placed it over Ellen Pompeo's face. I had to play around with the facial color to match her skin tone.

Sitting on Chapstick         VD 2014-15
This is me sitting on Rebecca's Chapstick . This photo was achieved by cropping my body from a separate picture and pasting it onto this photo. I had to match my color so that it would stand out against the wall and create a shadow under me.

Reflection Challenge

To achieve my reflection I took a photo with the lid of a candle. I had somebody take my picture from the side and I had to move back from the view of the camera and the lid captured my reflection.

Photo Walk

I think this is a good example of leading line. I like the lighting in this photo.

Before and After

This is my before and after. The change I made was to fill in my chipped nail polish. I used the clone tool and copy and pasted the color onto the missing parts. I always used the spot healing brush tool to perfect some spots on my skin.

Portrait Series

I decided to do my portrait series on my hair routine. I took pictures of all the steps I take to get my dry and nice and straight. I used black and white filters to edit my photos and make them look like a camera roll.

Photography Composition

High Key

   Rose                                          Veronica Drozdzewicz 2014

High Key- bright, intense, active

This is an example of a “High Key” photo. The rose is very bright and intense because the background is all black so the rose pops.  It is the main focus of the picture.

Silhouette
               Beach Swim               Veronica Drozdzewicz 2014

Silhouette- The lighting comes from behind the subject in your picture
This is an example of “Silhouette”. The lighting is behind the subject of the photo so it makes the subjects dark with a glow in the background.

Sharp Focus
      Cotillion                            Veronica Drozdzewicz 2014
Sharp Focus- Clear focus with no blurs
This is an example of “Sharp Focus”. This picture is clear and precise and nothing is blurry. The lighting helps the picture with how clear and focused this photo is.
Horizontal

        Philadelphia                                              Veronica Drozdzewicz 2014
Horizontal-picture is wider than it is tall
This is an example of a “Horizontal” photo. In order to get the skyline in this picture you need to take the picture horizontally.

Leading Line

    Railing                       Veronica Drozdzewicz 2014

Leading Line- Leading lines draw the viewer's eye to the point of interest or help create the illusion of depth and/or distance in a composition

This image is an example of “Leading Line”. The viewer’s eyes follow the path in which the picture demonstrates. This is a picture of a railing that curls in by the bottom and leads your eyes to a point.
